James “Jimmy” Mason comes from behind to win the 2-Day Bass Pro Shops Open Series District 1 Championship Tournament on Pickwick Lake.
ATHENS, Ala. – Mason win’s the 2021 Bass Pro Shop Open Series District 1 Championship Tournament, held Sept. 25th-26th on Pickwick Lake. We had 39 boaters with 28 co-anglers for the season ending 2-day championship. Going into the event the points race was very close bidding for the invites to the Ray Scott Championship. Running out of MacFarland Park in Florence, Alabama Kent Keys of Anniston Al takes the day 1 lead with 5 fish for 19.31 lbs. for the boater side, on the co-angler side Phillip Brumfield of Brookhaven Ms took the lead with 3 fish for 11.54 lbs. Park Gettys of Paris Tn had big fish for the boater side for 7.70 lbs. and the co-angler side Duane Parker of Calhoun Ga for 4.74 lbs.
James Mason of Rogersville Al comes from 5th place to take the District 1, 2-day championship. On day 1 he had 5 fish for 15.48 lbs. he came in on day with the largest weight for each day, he had 5 fish for 20.40 lbs. to give him a 2-day total 35.88 lbs. “It was grind out there I got 6 fish on day 1 and 5 fish today. I was junk fishing I had threw about everything to catch my fish,” said Mason. With his win he took home a check $3400.00.
2nd place: Boater Park Gettys of Paris Tn he had 10 fish for both days for a total of 33.30 lbs. He also had the big fish for the tournament with a nice 7.70 lb. bass. “I caught all my fish slow rolling a ¾” spinner bait mostly concentrating on grass and brush,” said Sparks.
3rd place: Boater Michael Savell of Brandon Ms caught 10 fish for 32.84 lbs. “I caught all fish both days on ned rig fishing a bluff wall,” said Savell.
4th place: Boater John Anderson of Bay Springs Ms caught 8 fish for 28.76 lbs. “I caught all my in JP Coleman Marina flipping boat docks using my pan optics,” said Anderson.
5th place: Boater Richard Mason of Athens Al caught 10 fish for 27.80 lbs.
In the co-angler division. Marrell Deering of Rome Ga caught 6 fish for 17.52 lbs. He pocketed a check for $1200.00. Came from 7th place to take the win. “I caught all my fish on a ned rig, and a shakey head,” said Deering.
Co-angler 2nd place: Phillip Brumfield of Brookhaven Ms caught 4 fish for 17.08 lbs. he also had big fish it weighed 5.54, it was the only fish he caught on day 2. “I all my fish on a chatter bait and Carolina rig,” said Brumfield.
Co-angler 3rd place: William Goldman of Tylertown Ms caught 5 fish for 15.85 lbs. “I caught all my fish by the Gace of God and good boaters,” said Goldman.

Co-angler 4th place: Nic Carter of Ohatchee Al caught 6 fish for 15.25 lbs.
Co-angler 5th place: Mike Young of Suwanee Ga caught 6 fish for 13.86 lbs.
